Several projects, and picking up after time away

In testingChecked on 24/10/2026 (French version)Translated on 27/10/2026

This lesson is still being tested: it improves with learners' feedback. If something is unclear, it is the lesson that needs fixing, not you.

Follow this lesson with Claude Code

With the course companion installed, open Claude Code in your working folder and type:

/formation-ia:suivre m05-l05 en

It reads the up-to-date lesson on this site and guides you step by step, without changing anything without your consent. Install the companion. Claude Code is not included in the free plan: an eligible Claude subscription, or a Console account billed by usage for the terminal.

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to

  • store several projects in your workspace without mixing them up;
  • switch from one project to another in one sentence;
  • choose between a shared workspace and a separate folder;
  • pick up after a long absence, spotting what has changed.

Why it matters to you

Very soon, you will have several projects at the same time: a trip, a work document, an idea for a tool. Without a rule, the sheets get mixed up and the restart becomes confusing. And after three weeks away, not everything is still true: a date has passed, a price has changed. This lesson prepares you for both.

Before you start

You needClaude Code in the app, in Manual mode, and your mon-espace-ia folder with at least one project (module 4, lesson 4)
CostThe agent subscription, the same as in module 4: Claude Pro at minimum, €18 per month excl. VAT, price shown in France on 24/10/2026
Duration30 minutes, then a restart after at least 3 days
ReminderA very personal project (family, confidential work) deserves its own folder; turning off memory (lesson 4) limits what Claude keeps, but does not allow you to put in it what is on your “never” list

Understand it in 3 minutes

One project, one subfolder. In the kit, each project lives in projets/<nom>/, with its projet.md sheet and its documents. The name is short, lowercase, with no accents or spaces: week-end-mer, cv-2027, outil-prets-club.

Only one project in progress at a time. The “Current project” line of the journal gives the path of the active sheet. It is the one the next session will read.

Shared workspace or separate folder?

In mon-espace-ia (projets/<nom>/)In a separate folder
ForSmall projects from everyday lifeA big project, with many files and its own rules (a website, a book, a work file)
The rulesThe CLAUDE.md of your workspace, shared by all of themIts own CLAUDE.md (if the folder is created next to mon-espace-ia, not inside it)
Automatic memoryShared by the whole workspaceIts own, if the folder is created next to mon-espace-ia: according to the documentation, each project has its own memory folder, but a subfolder of a Git project shares that project’s

Where to create the separate folder? Next to mon-espace-ia (for example in Documents), not inside it: Claude reads the CLAUDE.md of the folder that is open and those of all the folders that contain it, so your workspace’s rules would apply to it too.

After a long absence, not everything is still true. Your journal says what was true on the day you wrote it. A deadline may have passed, a price may have changed, a person may have replied. The restart summary is there to show you this before you set off again.

Do it together

1Step 1: Create a second project

I want to open a second project: [your idea in one sentence]. Suggest a short name for its folder, then a project sheet based on projets/modele-projet.md, with the goal and 3 "It worked if…" criteria. Show me the sheet before writing it.

Read it, correct it, approve.

2Step 2: Switch from one project to another

We're switching to the [name] project: read its sheet and tell me the next action. At the end of the session, the "Current project" line of the journal will need to show this project.

3Step 3: See your projects at a glance

Make me a list of my projects, with for each one: the goal in one line, the last decision, and the next action. Do not change anything.

4Step 4: The restart summary (after an absence)

At your next session after at least 3 days, open a New session on mon-espace-ia, in Manual mode, then:

I'm back after an absence. Give me a restart summary on the current project: what is done, what is decided, the next action, and what may have changed since (past dates, prices, dated information). Then suggest updating the sheet, without writing anything without my approval.

Compare with your sheet and your journal, then check for yourself what may have changed: a date, a price, an awaited reply.

Your turn

The module 5 deliverable, first half:

  1. your workspace contains 2 projects, each with its sheet up to date;
  2. you have switched from one to the other at least once, with the “Current project” line up to date;
  3. after at least 3 days without touching it, you did a restart summary and updated the sheet.

Check your work

It worked if:

  • each project has its subfolder, with a short name, with its sheet;
  • the “Current project” line of your last journal page shows the right project;
  • your restart summary brought out at least one piece of information to recheck, or confirmed to you that nothing had changed;
  • the sheet was updated after the restart.

Common mistakes:

  • two projects in the same sheet;
  • forgetting to change the “Current project” line: the next restart goes to the wrong project;
  • picking up after three weeks as if nothing had happened;
  • multiplying open projects: three at the same time is already a lot.

Keep it and pick it up later

  • A finished or abandoned project gets put away: in lesson 7, you will see how to archive it.
  • The restart summary is a template to keep in your request library (module 2).

Going further

optional
  • For a project in a separate folder: create the folder next to mon-espace-ia (not inside it), open it in a new session in Manual mode (the app remembers the mode folder by folder: choose it for this new folder), and ask Claude to suggest a short CLAUDE.md for this project (lesson 2). The documentation states that a folder’s CLAUDE.md is read at the start of each session opened on that folder.

New words

3 words explained
WordWhat it means
Current projectThe active project, shown by a line of the journal, which the next session will resume
Restart summaryThe summary requested after an absence: done, decided, next action, and what may have changed
Separate folderA working folder of its own for a big project, with its own CLAUDE.md

Check your understanding

3 questions, no grade. An explanation appears after each answer.

1At the start of a new session, how does Claude know which of your two projects you were working on?
2You come back after three weeks. What is the best first request?
3When is a separate folder better for a project?

What's next?
